We wanted to give a recap of the week camp...SWO (Snowbird Wilderness Outfitters) started in 1997 by a couple, Steve and Billie Faye Coleman. Steve was a youth pastor for years under Johnny Hunt in Woodstock, Georgia. Steve wanted a place (camp) for students to go, to get away from the "world" and be challenged in their Faith through a variety of ways while at camp! SWO does an awesome job of pushing students out of their comfort zone and challenging them in their daily walk with Christ! Everyone who went to camp (adults included) came back changed and we are excited already to see the changes in our students at Stony Hill and look forward to seeing the impact they will have on their communities and at their schools! If you see a student, ask them what God taught them at camp!

If this is your first time to the blog, click to the right on each day to see what we did daily at camp! We'd love to hear your comments too :)

SWO Day 6

This picture and poem wrapped up the week at camp...

this week God taught me how to live and to love,
of his grace and mercy in heaven above.
our God is more faithful than we could ever wish to be
he opened my eyes and heart for me to see.
i learned the difference between punishment and disipline,
that God does what he does, since he wants us to be with him.
im never alone with him in my heart,
even though im a sinner who sometimes departs.
when we go home, from temtation i must run
ive put up with satan too long, and i want to be done.
i picked up a severe passion for the Lord,
with his works in my thoughts and his word as my sword.
hes opening me up to others around me,
and helping me stand out in the crowd surrounding me.
when we go back i want to be different
change my actions, ways of thinking, and influnces i hang out with.
when people look at me i want them to ask:
why is she different? she doesnt wear a mask.
i feel the responsibility to be a Godly example for others,
and to protect the minds and hearts of my brothers.
Jesus Christ is the one i want to pursue,
this week, what has he taught you?

SWO Day 4

Today is my favorite day! We headed out rafting as a group after lunch then after dinner we had the Redneck Rodeo and Revelation Skit. There are so many great pictures, we have over 300 taken today, so i'll pick some i think will best show off our group!

The Redneck Rodeo was a blast! The staff/counselors dress up as different characters or in costumes and the students play "redneck" games like "Wrastle the cow"-getting a calf on the ground, "caytch a pig" (piglett greased down), "break the egg off yur youth pasters head" (see picture)..."tire rollin' contest with yur friend inside" and many relay races...all this is done to keep us entertained while a large majority of the staff prepares for the Revelation Skit.

The revelation skit is a skit loosley based on the end of the book of revelation. This is an awesome skit that is very carefully planned out and choreographed, very realistic and brought many of us to tears realizing what Christ has done and will do for us. Our pictures don't do the skit justice and you can't really tell what's going on so I didn't put any on here, however we purchased a camp dvd and the entire skit is on video if you would like to take a look. Stay tuned for Day 5, our last full day at camp!!!

SWO Day 1

We made it!!! We left Monday morning a little before 9am and traveled all the way to Asheville before stopping?! We couldn't believe we made it 3 ½ hours with 27 people in 2-15 passenger vans and a weeks worth of stuff! We arrived at Snowbird just before 3pm, perfect time since check-in is from 3-5pm! After the vans were bombarded with Snowbird staff, they staff a 1 to 4 ratio so there are a lot of staff for the 400 students that are here this week, we headed to The Coop (pictured below) for orientation.

We unloaded our vans into 2 cabins, the girls cabin “Atlanta” and the guys cabin “Wakefield”.

Then rec sign up at 5:15pm. Rather than signing up before you get to camp, they hold a mass rec sign up for the week once all the groups arrive. Our group is going White Water Rafting Thursday, one day for the ropes course (zip line, climbing tower, 3-man swing)

and that left 2 other rec choices. Dinner was at 6:15pm in the Big Green Metal Building, then a worship service at 7:15 in The Coop. Worship time is awesome! They started with a skit, the praise band leads us in a couple of songs then Brody (Camp Director) spoke and challenged the students.

The Snack Shack (where you can buy t-shirts, hats, snacks, etc.) opened after worship until share groups at 10:00pm, this was a great time for the kids as well as our leaders to share what God is teaching and showing us at camp! Snowbird is very strict on these next two rules, student must be in their cabins, or fear the SWOMP, then lights out at 11:30pm (really)!

We have already had a blast at camp and only been here a few hours! I'll update the site every day so you can see what's going on with SHY (Stony Hill Youth). We are trying to get pictures of every student every day!!! Leave us your comments, we'd love to hear them!!!

Here are some random pictures of day 1...I'm trying to get pictures from everyone who has a camera...there are much more from Day 2!!!
